How do I add or edit a service

Your services are usually the part of the site that decides whether a client picks up the phone. Unlike pages such as About or the homepage, you normally have several services, or a dozen or more — which is why in the panel Service (Usługa) is a list of entries rather than a single document (more on that difference in one page, or a list of entries?).

Each service appears in three places: as a card on the services page, on its own page, and — if you feature it, or it's among the first three — on the homepage.

Title and short description

"Title" (Tytuł) is the service's name and a required field. It appears on every card, as the big heading on the service's page and on the browser tab.

"Short description" (Krótki opis) is the sentence or two visible on the service's cards before a client even clicks — the place for the essence, not the full description of a treatment or legal service. The site also uses this same text as the page's description in Google if you don't enter a different one in the SEO tab.

URL (slug)

Under the title is the "URL (slug)" field (Adres URL (slug)) — the end part of the service page's address, e.g. wybielanie-zebow in yourbusiness.pl/uslugi/wybielanie-zebow. It's a required field: you can't publish the service without it.

The panel doesn't fill it in by itself. After typing the title, click the "Generate" button (Generuj) next to the field, and the panel turns the title into an address: lower case, no Polish characters, hyphens instead of spaces. You can edit it by hand afterwards.

Two things matter here. First, the slug doesn't change by itself when you later change the title — "Wybielanie zębów" renamed to "Wybielanie zębów nakładkowe" will keep its old address. Second, changing the slug by hand after publishing means the old address stops working. Links someone saved or shared on Facebook, and results in Google, will lead to a "not found" error page until Google refreshes its data. So it's best to set the slug once, when you create the service, and leave it alone after that.

Photo and icon

A service can have a "Photo" (Zdjęcie) and an "Icon" (Ikona), and what you see depends on where on the site you are:

  • On the homepage the card only ever shows the icon, never the photo.
  • On the services page the card shows the photo in a landscape frame. Without a photo, a large icon on a light background takes its place, and with neither — just the name and description.
  • On the service's own page the photo is a wide banner above the text. The icon appears above the title only when there's no photo.

For the "Icon" field you don't upload a file — you type a single emoji, e.g. 🦷 for a dental service or ⚖️ for a court case. For the photo, fill in the "Alt text" (Tekst alternatywny) and set a hotspot, because the site crops it to two different shapes — we explain the rules in how to upload and crop photos. The service photo also doubles as the sharing image if you don't upload a separate one in the SEO tab.

Full description

"Full description" (Pełny opis) is where everything goes that didn't fit in the short description — how the treatment works, what the service covers, who it's for. It appears on the service's page below the title. You write it in the text editor with a trimmed-down set of tools: second- and third-level headings, quote, bold, italics, lists and links (how to use the text editor).

If you leave this field empty, the page won't be blank — the Short description appears below the title instead.

Display order

The "Display order" field (Kolejność wyświetlania) is just a number — the lower it is, the earlier the service appears on the services page. Services without a number go to the end. The same order also decides which three services land on the homepage if you don't pick featured ones by hand there (how to edit your homepage).

It's easiest to number in tens: 10, 20, 30. When a new service comes along that you want to slot between two existing ones, give it 15 and you won't need to renumber the rest.

SEO

Every service has its own SEO tab, because if it has its own page, it's worth caring how that page looks in search results — see how to fill in the SEO tab.
