How do I add photos to the gallery

A treatment room after renovation, a training room, a photographer's best work — sometimes a few good photos say more than a paragraph of description. That's what the gallery is for: a separate page at yourbusiness.pl/galeria, with a grid of square thumbnails that open up enlarged when clicked.

The gallery is a feature we switch on for a specific site. If you don't see "Gallery Page" (Strona galerii) or "Gallery Photo" (Zdjęcie w galerii) in the panel menu, your site doesn't have one, and the site's menu won't have a "Galeria" link either. If you'd like to add it, write to us.

Two items in the panel

The gallery is made up of two kinds of documents, found in different parts of the menu.

Gallery Page sits in the upper part of the menu, next to Contact Details (Dane kontaktowe). It's a single document with an SEO tab only: the title and description for Google, the sharing image and the switch for hiding it from search engines (how to fill in the SEO tab). The "Galeria" heading on the page itself is fixed.

Gallery Photo sits at the very bottom of the menu, among the lists. Each photo is a separate entry, so you add them one by one, like services or team members (one page, or a list of entries?).

The fields of a single photo

Two fields are required: "Photo" (Zdjęcie) and "Title" (Tytuł). The title appears on the thumbnail when someone hovers over it, and under the photo in the enlarged view, so make it say something: "Treatment room after renovation" rather than "IMG_2041".

Next to the photo itself there's an "Alt text" field (Tekst alternatywny) — a short description of what's shown, for Google and for people using a screen reader. If it's left empty, the site uses the title.

"Description" (Opis) is optional and only appears in the enlarged view, below the title. It's a good place for a sentence of context, such as when and where the photo was taken.

Categories

The "Category" field (Kategoria) groups photos into sections with headings. Just type the group's name, e.g. "Gabinet" (treatment room), "Zespół" (team) or "Sprzęt" (equipment), and photos with the same name end up under a shared heading.

The name has to be typed identically every time. "Gabinet" and "gabinet" are two different categories as far as the site is concerned, and so two separate headings. Photos without a category appear at the very top, with no heading. If no photo has a category, the whole gallery is a single grid.

Order

The number in the "Sort order" field (Kolejność sortowania) works just like with services: lower means earlier, and photos without a number go to the end, in the order they were added. The order of categories follows from the order of the photos — the section containing the photo with the lowest number comes first.

Thumbnails are square

On the gallery page, every photo is shown as a 600 × 600 pixel square, whether you uploaded a landscape or a portrait shot. This is where the hotspot matters: the site shifts the square frame so that the point you mark with the circle stays visible. Without a hotspot it simply takes the centre of the photo, which can cut off someone's head in a portrait taken from a distance.

Clicking a thumbnail opens the photo in full, not cropped to a square — only the rectangle crop applies, if you've set one. Visitors can move between photos with the arrows on screen or on their keyboard. We show how to set the hotspot and crop in how to upload and crop photos.

Until you add any photos, the gallery page shows the message "Brak zdjęć w galerii." (No photos in the gallery yet.), so add at least a few before you send anyone the link.

Your gallery, services and team are all in place. If anything in the panel doesn't behave the way we describe here, take a look at what to do when your site isn't working.
